Jack; Oh, busy.

Pri; Yeah, since breakfast. Why did you promise him a job? 

J; He gets in less troble when he's in virgin river. 

P; So far, he's broken five plates, three glasses, and is currently on my last nerve. 

J; Look, he's new to this.

P; Yeah? What's that? Work? or a job?

J; Hey look, i want to give him a reason to stick around this time.

P; All right, listen. We both know denial's a dangerous thing. (와장창) Now if you'll excuse me, i need to empty the dishwasher so that Brady has some more things to break. 

 

#19 병원, 아기 돌보는 멜. 새로운 환자가 찾아옴.

p; You're not doc.

Mel; Uh, no, I'm Mel.

p; The new nurse.

M; Yeah, that's me. Can i help you with sth?

p; Nothing personal, but uh.. i'm not really okay with you being a lady and all. (애기 칭얼칭얼) So, that's the little one that's got everyone so worked up. 

Mel; Yeah, i'm calling her Chloe. 

p; Had a collie named Chloe when i was younger. Oh, that girl could herd. 

Mel; Uh.. look, um... (charlie). Charlie, uh ,yeah, I don't know when doc will be back but i can help you with whatever brought you in today.

Charlie; Well, i think i'll come back later. You tell Doc i came by. 

Mel; I will. Bye.

C; You know, everyone's talkin' about you wanting to call those people to come take the baby. I get it. I was adopted. Had good foster parents that turned into real parents.

M; Thanks, charlie.

Jack; Hey.

M; Hey, I already dropped the pies off to Preacher. 

J; No, i'm here for a latte.

M; Why, Jach Sheridan, I never thought I'd see the day I'd steam milk for you. 

J; No, not for me. For mel. 

M; Aah. Suddenly everythig seems right in the world again. 

J; But you know what? Let's make it two. 

M; Wow, she's having a bad day, huh? 

J; She's going through some stuff. 

M; Yeah, Connie came by earlier. 

J; Oh, i bet she did. Thanks to her, Mel's the talke of the town. You know, Look, i know it happens but i can't wrap my head around why a mother would abandon her baby. 

M; Well, we don't know the mother's story. Maybe she didn't have a choice but to do what she did. I mean, no mother in her right mind wants to give up her child. I know I'd die to protect my son. Do you think she'll call social services?

J; Mm.. i don't know. 

M; I'm not a big fan of child welfare agencies. It's just.. you know, you see it on the news all the time. Sometimes the people that are supposed to make things better end up making things worse. Thank you. (아들 등장) Hey, Buddy. 

J; Hey, Christopher. I think Preacher could use a hand flipping pancakes tomorrow. If it's okay with your mom. 

M;  It's fine. 

C; see you tomorrow jack.

J; See you buddy. 

M; Hey, do you know how much i love you? (mom~~~) Off you go. 

 

#21 병원, 멜을 찾아온 잭

Hey.

Mel; Oh, I'm so happy to see you. And you too. (두개를 주자) You're not gonna join me? 

J; No, they're both for you. 

M; Ah. You're a good man. 

J; And you're a good woman. 

M; I don't think my sister agree with you. We didn't have the best phone call. 

J; Don't beat yourself up. You've been under a lot of stress. Look i got four sisters, I know how they can be. 

M; Well, she practically raised me, so she's used to bossing me around.  She's a force of nature. 

J; Obviously runs in the family. How's our girl?

M; She's still not eating enough, and i'm running out of ideas. 

J; Still no word from Doc?

M; No, and i can't, you know, sit around waiting, knowing that she's hungry. I mean, he's on some wild-goose chase, trying to keep social services away. And we don't know where the mother is.  She could be in a whole other state by now.  

J; Look, i promise you Doc believes he's doing the right thing. 

M; Never in my career have i seen a doctor just throw procedure out the window and leave nothing in its place. 

If he'd worked anywhere other than virgin river, he might understand where i'm coming from. 

J; Well, he worked in Seattle before he came here.  He was head of Internal Medicine, i think, Northwest hospital. 

M; They have one of the best transplant centers in the country. Let me guess. He got fired for making up his own rules? 

J; No, he quit. Yeah, something about too much paperwork and politics. Not enough doctoring. Here, you want me to take her?

M; No, i got it.

J; No, let me. I've got a lot of nieces and nephews. (There you go). Look, I spent 20-plus years following protocol in the Corps, so I get why this is so hard for you. 

M; Yeah, systems are in place for a reason. 

J; Yeah, but the thing you gotta remember about this time It's a bit off the beaten path. So, people have learned to rely on each other more than the outside world. So, the rules out there, sometimes they just don't apply here. 

M; Yeah, I'm just trying to do what's best for her. And if I'm the only one that thinks she needs more than a phone tree, then so be it. 

J; Well, just so you know, you're not alone. Ok? i'm on your side.

Hey,

Hey, Great minds. How's the head? 

Better. 

And the job?

Uh, well, never a dull moment. Which i like. 

You're an adrenaline junkie?

Well, only in certain situations. I went skydiving once. I hated it. 

Before i even boarded the plane, i felt like i was gonna die. 

Why did you gen on the plane?

I was trying to impress a woman. 

Oh, how did that work out?

I ended up with a migraine. And from what I'm told she ended up with the instructor. (oh. ouch..) Hey, uh, what do you do? I mean, what do you do when you're not working?

Run, Trail runn, especially. But there's really not anywhere to go around here. 

Actually, i have a few secret spots that i could show you that are...uh... sorry. You have such a nice smile. I gotta go. So, i 'll just see you around campus?

Jack; I just put her down. I better get back to the bar to make sure Preacher isn't killing brady. 

Mel; Oh, they don't get along?

J; Please. The only thing those two have in common is a deep hatred for one another.
